Kate’s visit comes to an end. A charlatan “prophet” comes to Glamerton, declaring that the day of judgement will come in forty days and all will be destroyed. The week of the prophesied destruction arrives, and some believe the prophecy will prove true, for a terrible flood threatens the town, and the rains do not let up.
