Robert Bruce is finally exposed for his dishonesty regarding money, and expelled from the missionar church. Alec becomes aware of his mother’s financial difficulties, and looks for a way to earn money during the summer. His old land-lady mentions a relative of hers is the Captain of a whaling vessel, and they need a doctor on board. Alec signs on, and sets sail. Mr. Cupples visits Glamerton to enjoy the countryside in summer.
